HURRICANE MILTON POSTS

As Cape Haze goes through the days ahead, please use this post as a way of sharing information. Many of our neighbors left the community to ride out the storm. Sharing information will allow all of us to return safely and timely. Thank you.

Ride to Delray was about 5.5 hours yesterday…. Google Maps routed through the middle of the state under Lake O and did not direct us to Alligator Alley

  2. Hwy 41 to Miami was empty late Tuesday night/Wednesday AM. 3.5 hours. There was gas in Naples at the I-75 exits. Did not see gas along the route in Charlotte County. Be safe.

Charlotte County has enacted a curfew from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. for all of Charlotte County, including the City of Punta Gorda, effective at 9 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 9. The curfew will be in place until further notice. Violation of the curfew is a misdemeanor.
The curfew includes a ban on the sale of alcohol between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. until the curfew is rescinded.
“Although I recognize the frustrations that come with enacting a curfew, this is a means of protecting the people and property of Charlotte County during and following Hurricane Milton.” said Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prummell. “As soon as it is safe, I will recommend the order be rescinded. Until that time, the only people who should be out on the roadways during those hours are essential workers as they strive to assess damage and provide assistance to those in need and people traveling to and from work.”
“We will be strictly enforcing a curfew in the City of Punta Gorda for the safety of our citizens,” said Punta Gorda Police Chief Pam Smith. “This curfew will allow emergency responders to focus on post-storm rescue and recovery efforts.”

Praying that all stay safe for those who stayed in Cape Haze. If you are able please keep us posted as to the surge level, and status!

Hi all. We just left Cape Haze and will be returning tomorrow afternoon 🤞🏻Who is staying so we can check on you? We live on Green Dolphin N.

    1. My dad lived on green dolphin..let me know how it is if you find out. I haven’t heard from him….
      Thx! John Sabourin

      1. Moe is fine. The house had a couple of feet inside.
We have a drywall crew coming in tomorrow to take a look at 8 homes.

        Good luck to all.

I have spoken with several Cape Haze area residents that stayed in their homes and it seems that the surge was a little worse than Helene, but not as much as was predicted. Based on what I’m hearing, it sounds like the surge was 7-9′. The winds have started to die down. The next high tide is about 4:37am, so we hope the winds die down enough to ease the surge and offset the rise in tide. The storm dumped very little rain, which helped our flooding situation. We should know more when we get some sun light tomorrow. Based on the radar, the storm is almost completely to our north now, however, we should expect trailing tropical force winds for several more hours.

  8. Robert Matthews

This is what I’m being told….
I think you have 50-60 mph west wind for several more hours. So surge will go up until wind switches to northwest. Guessing water rise for four to six hours. Then yes storm water goes out faster than tide comes in. 102 mph gust at Sarasota

  9. Praying for everyone who stayed. Please update if able all of us homeowners are completely sick with worry for our community.

  10. I’m thankful for a new day! As the sun rises and folks return back to their homes in CH, please keep us posted here. Any information you have will help all of us. If you need something, post it here and let community do community! I pray that you are all safe and that your property was spared from damage. I hope to see you soon.

    Stay off the roads!
Let the first responders make them safe for us. The deadliest time of a hurricane happens post storm. Downed power lines, storm debris, loss of stop signs and traffic signals, all add to the post storm danger. Emergency crews are assessing damage and clearing safe routes. Avoid travel to prevent accidents and allow crews to work quickly.

  12. Thankful to have this information! Not sure of our condition on the ICW as we are not there. Can any one report on the following: water service, cable service, cell reception? If any one is there and could go by our place at 500 Anchor Row to let us know if our whole house generator is running? Anyone can text me at 443-254-4870. Much Thanks in Advance!

  13. It’s the Bells from 375 Green Dolphin; were in NY does anyone have any updates on the conditions on Cape Haze?
    Thank you

I am heading back this afternoon. From people that have already returned this is what I’m hearing….
There is debris scattered all around (limbs, garbage, etc), but nothing like Ian
The surge was definitely more than Helene. I have about 3-4″ in my house and my pool is now Gulf seawater! If your house was elevated, you’re probably ok.

    Some tips & information:
    * Nails & Screws in tires – this is very common after a storm. Text me at 954-298-7041 and I can plug your tire. (Anyone else have that ability that could help?)
    * When you return home, if you find someone else’s stuff on your lawn, can I ask that you move it towards the front of your yard, but not to the street so people think it’s garbage. Then post here what you found and your address. If it’s obvious garbage then feel free to bring it to the street for disposal. Not sure when the county/FEMA will be by to pick things up.
    * All Cape Haze Deed Restrictions are suspended until April 1, 2025 (as per the CHPOA Executive Committee)

  16. Thanks for the comments all! We are on North Green Dolphin. I would love any reports from anyone with “eyes on the ground”. I hear hopeful things, but I would love to know as we have no internet to look at our cameras. Thank you!

  17. Morning everyone. Any news on damage and/or flooding on Green Dolphin Dr., and the rest of the neighborhood as well? I’m at 270 GDD and we survived Helene without flooding, hoping the same this time too. Thank you to Rob and others for keeping us informed.

  18. Our home is 375 GDD if anyone is near and can take a look at house also curious if boat is still in lift

  19. Mary Lou Fitzgerald

Fitzgerald, Jack and Mary Lou. (ML). Our house 480 s green dolphin, elev 13 feet. Water was in yard about 15 feet linear up driveway. House great! Yard like Amazon jungle. Self standing generator working for ref and freezer. A fan later but right now He is sending a great breeze. Heard some old homes have water on them. So we are counting our blessings and hope He gives all the strength and calmness that all need.

  20. Cindy Googins at 340 Capstan Drive sent me a picture of the mark left by the flooding water on the outside of her door: one foot flooding seems to be what we got there.

  21. we just got pictures of our place at 240 green dolphin from a friend. we are at ground level, not raised on a hill. looks like water was about a foot up the side of the house, so I assume we got water in every room. however, it’s drained down to the rear of our yard, lower, it looks, than it was after Helene. all in all, better than I expected. my hope, for all of you!

  22. We were able to get eyes on our home on green dolphin. Water line on the front of the house was maybe 2 feet. Inside was about half a foot of water. Hope this info helps.

  23. All pretty good at the Cotta’s as we had a neighbor with a key go check on it. A bit of lift damage, soffit damage, definitely water/mud in garage but cars in garage did well. Our hearts go out to those less fortunate. We’ll be heading back soon….please let us know if you need us for a few hours of manual labor in the coming days and weeks.

  24. Hello Everyone. This is Robin and Garvin. We purchased the lot at 310 Spaniards this morning. Heartfelt sympathies go out to all who suffered damage to their homes. We look forward to getting to know as many of you as possible.

    1. Hello Robin welcome to cape haze. Sorry for the bad weather. We live in a very nice place I have traveled around the would. Nothing is perfect in this world, but Cape Haze is very nice.

  25. Help. Does anyone have a long crank for a hurricane shutter. Shutter goes up and down. Covers front door. Our crank in garage and presently we can’t open garage doors.

    1. We have cranks for Kevlar StormSmart covers. W
E’ll be at our home later this afternoon 4:30 pm or so. 330 Capstan Drive.

  26. Percy Lee Angelo

Hi, it’s Percy Angelo at 15 Spyglass. Does anyone know whether there is power down that way? I want to come down to check things out but want to wait to make sure there’s power.
Our little boat got carried across Spyglass to Kathy Damewood’s front yard. Must have been a sight.

    1. Hi Percy,
This is Richard and Beth from next door. We have no power yet. We will send you a text when it comes back on. Can we check on anything for you?

  27. Christine Leblois

This is the Leblois at 330 capstan. Very heavy traffic on I-75, will get there more around 6:00 pm to pass on the crank if still needed!

  28. Mary Lou fitzgerald

Will be in Cape Haze this week end.

    1. Hi Axel,
This is RIch and Gretchen Foltz, we just returned and realize our sons kayak is missing.
It’s green and is quite large. Do you still have it, it could be his.
      Thank you

  30. Can anyone advise as to places to stay/rent while restoration is taking place. We had about 2.5 ft of water at 220 Capstan.

    Steve Morison

    1. Hello Stephen my name is Regis and own a a home in Cape Haze. I am up North now and if you still looking for a place. For a while give me a call. 514 560 8572

    2. Hi Stephen,

Chuck Cotta and I have a rental property in Rotonda West which is currently unoccupied. 2 BR with 3rd bedroom set up as an office, 2 bath, 2 car garage. No water intrusion, no damage. How long do you think you’ll need a place?

  31. The main FPL Feeder line in Cape is good.
Capstan Drive has power. The laterals at this time do not. I talked with a few FPL contacts and they are working hard to get us back in service.

  32. Drywall repairs and paining.

I have crew coming down Sunday to look at 8 homes.
If you need any help let me know.

If anyone lost it call me.

  35. Charlotte County Emergency Management
    Local Agency
    Social Media Manager Ashley Turner

The Charlotte County Utilities Department urges customers to limit water usage. Numerous wastewater lift stations within the county are without power.

Low pressure sewer customers must also limit water usage during the power outage. In a power outage, low pressure sewer pumps will not function. The home’s wastewater will remain onsite within the interceptor tank and cannot enter the central sewer system. The onsite tank has a reserve capacity for limited water use during the outage.

Currently, there are no boil water notices in effect. Our water systems are operational.

    1. Rob, not sure if its me or the site…..I get an error message when I try to click on either of those links.

  36. Brought canoe found hanging on my boat lift back to dock. It’s a green Ascent 1 person / 350 pounds model. Likely from someone on Capstan or Bucaneer Bend.
I can’t post a photo on this bulletin board but can text pictures if so wished. 404 641 5661.

If anyone needs a team to come in and help with demoing or rebuilding, you may want to give Ryan Turner (Turner General Contracting) a call (941-310-0653). We used them on my daughter’s place and they were professional, timely, and great communicators. Ryan recently relocated from Columbus, OH, and is looking to get the business off the ground here.

  38. We are missing a wooden ramp that goes to our shed. If you have seen it, will you please call or text 941-662-6446. Thank you! Lori Newcomer, 215 Spaniards

  39. We pulled a Rubbermaid commercial wheel barrel out of the bay with the number 261 spray painted on the sides. If this is yours let me know and I’ll return it to you!
    Denene Keifer 937-578-8668

  40. Lu Ramsay Cotta

Washed up in our yard are two large pieces of dock: both are about 7-8′ long and 4-5′ wide each with 3 stringers. They look to be fairly recently constructed. Please call or text ahead if wishing to visit to determine if they might be yours. 443-254-4870.

  41. Courtesy of Milton I acquired a large white fiberglass (I think) object that I can only think of as a credenza…from a dock maybe? At 15 Spyglass, near the water waiting to return home.

I also have acquired a few of the posts used to beautify the cul de sacs. One took out my pool screen. I’ve returned the one I could lift to the cul de sac. But there’s the pool screen culprit and another by the side of the road.

FYI, my little boat got carried into Kathy Damewood’s front yard. Can you imagine the surge that did that.

  42. We found a blue Rubbermaid trash can on wheels with “F” painted in orange on the front. This is by the road at 215 Spaniards.
