A message from the CHPOA President, Bill Dahms
Dear Cape Haze Property Owner:
This week the invoices for your membership in the Cape Haze Property Owners Association (CHPOA) and our Common Area Maintenance Fund (CAM) will go out. I hope you will join. CHPOA and CAM are voluntary organizations. Initially when we became involved twenty years ago, I thought being a voluntary organization was a bad thing. Now after almost twenty years of service, I realize that being voluntary is actually a good thing for the community. Some of you choose to join, others for whatever reason, don’t.
The fact that we are voluntary means we have to “sell” you on membership by our actions and by what we do for you. Over the past few months in the wake of Hurricane Ian, I’ve had the opportunity to speak with other HOA’s. They are all mandatory. Unlike us, they don’t have to encourage you to join. They can charge what they will; do what they will; make or enforce policies how they wish and dictate interpretations of their myriad rules (96 pages in one case) some of which are draconian in nature. We in CHPOA or CAM can’t and I hope you will agree that we don’t act that way.
Our mission statement says it all:
“To do that within our power to maintain or improve the quality of life and the property values in Cape Haze”.
Recently we did a monumental clean up as soon as Ian left us. We fought against the imposition of costly and disruptive sewers. We actively petitioned the county to fight destructive development in this area. We were a strong voice against the widening of Placida Road. We keep the common areas looking good and maintain our sole meeting place. And far more.
After almost twenty years on the board, I am stepping down. I leave the association in good hands and thank you the members and our board for your support over the years.
Cape Haze is a great place to live and I think our best years are ahead of us.
With all good wishes, I am
Sincerely,
Bill Dahms
President, CHPOA
Please don’t forget the CHPOA annual meeting on Sat. Jan. 28 10 AM at the Community Center. All are invited to attend and have voice. Only 2023 paid up CHPOA members are able to vote.
Bill…. Thank you for the many years of service for our community. We have all been blessed by your hard work.
