Below is a live link of a guy that is doing freelance weather work at Cape Haze. I do not know who he is but he has some real interesting video of our community.

Good morning…
I have spoken to some neighbors that have stayed in the area (pray for them!). The winds have continued out of the east, which has kept the canals “empty” for now (low tide ~8:00am). Looks like landfall will be JUST to our north, so the winds will swing around during the day and the real challenge will be later this afternoon (and beyond). The power is out in the area. One neighbor said they heard the transformer blow.
Here’s some links to web cams in the Placida area.. not sure how long they’ll stay on line.
Gasparilla Marina – RIGHT NEAR M&D’S HOUSE! If this stays up, this will give you the best idea of what’s going on in Cape Haze.
Bokeelia – north end of Pine Island
Pineland – near the north end of Pine Island (east of Cabbage Key)
HI All,
Cape Haze is in Evacuation Phase A and it has been suggested to evacuate from Charlotte County. Wondering how many have done so?? Chuck and I are going to attempt to ride it out, in the optimistic hope that our whole house generator kicks in and provides us light and A/C. We spent the day getting our boat secured and elevating items off ground level as our prediction is that storm surge will be worse than the winds. Thanks goodness for storm shutters. Anyway, just wanted to let everyone know that we plan to ride it out. If you have evacuated and want us to check on your property after the storm has passed, to assess viability for returning, please just let us know. We’ll don our wader boots and head over to your home for a quick look-see and report back to you, assuming you provide permission and an email address for a message or a cell phone for a text.
Be Safe,
Lu and Chuck Cotta, 500 Anchor Row.

This storm continues to head our way. The last track has us in or very close to the eye. The surge is expected to be up to 12′. This is a game changer for many homes in Cape Haze. I have been in contact with many of our neighbors who are not staying. I will try to post stories or pictures as I get them.
good luck all,
many of the local webcams are out. the one at south beach bar and grill and englewood beach are still up. links here

Praying for everyone there. My parents are Jerry and Rena Green formerly of 390 Capstan. I am concerned for all who stayed. Currently waiting to see what happens here on coastal Georgia as I am below Savannah, on the water.
Dear Placida/Cape Haze Residents:
First I pray you’re all safe, from this devastation . Homes can be replaced , life’s cannot…
I know this is a long shot….I have older cousins (mid 80’s) in Windward (across Placida Road) they did NOT evacuate.. Their address is 2 Windward Place, Placida Florida 33946 .
The family cannot reach them. Police have been notified “they’re on the list” . Last we heard , they’re in their garage, without their medication etc. From what I understand their home is in disrepair .
I personally cannot confirm or deny this.
Please understand I’m not asking anyone to put their life in peril . Are there resources the family can reach out to, that we’re not aware of that can check on them?
Any information would be helpful .
My prayers are with Floridians
Thank you in advance,
Jessica Schimmel
